Is it Mandatory to Update Your Aadhaar Details? Deadline for Free Aadhaar Updates Extended to September 14, 2024
The government has extended the deadline for free Aadhaar card updates to September 14, 2024. Previously, the last date set by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) was June 14, 2024. Aadhaar cards, which rely on biometric and demographic data, can be updated to reflect changes in personal information. The 12-digit Aadhaar number is crucial for identity verification on various platforms.
If your Aadhaar card is more than ten years old and hasn’t been updated, UIDAI recommends providing fresh Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents to ensure accuracy. The government is encouraging citizens to update their Aadhaar details free of charge to prevent complications when using Aadhaar for services.
According to Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations of 2016, individuals must update their POI and POA documents every ten years from the date of initial enrollment. Additionally, biometric details for children holding a Blue Aadhaar card should be updated at ages 5 and 15.
Regular updates are important to keep the Aadhaar database accurate, capturing changes like address, name, or marital status.
